Roy Duncan: US Army 1941-1945

My grandfather Roy Duncan served three years and ten months in the Army. The first half of his tenure was spent training in the US, while the second half was spent in Europe. As a participant in the European Theater of Operations (ETO), he spent nine more months training before entering combat. From July 1944 to May 1945 his extensive training was put to the test against the Germans. He received five campaign medals with bronze stars, the American Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart. He returned home and received an honorable discharge in October 1945.
